When a VPN is active on a device, the IP address is replaced with the IP address of the VPN server. This makes it difficult for websites to track the user’s actual location. DNS resolution is also affected by a VPN; instead of using the ISP’s DNS server, the VPN uses its DNS server to resolve website domains.
